Assessing the English challenge at the Euros, The English team has always looked strong on the papers coming into any tournament but has failed to deliver when it comes to performing. This has been as similar case for England in most of the tournaments where they are eliminated right before we think we will be seeing something special from the three lions.
England is credited with the origination of football but is not a potent force in the football world. England had their days but that was years ago and the modern English team has been very poor at the EUROS and the World Cup. The question still remains the same, can the three lions break the deadlock and prove what they are capable of or will it be the same old England having the world-class players but not a world class team. This remains yet to be seen but here is the assessment of what England is capable of doing at the EUROS.
Assessing the English challenge at the Euros
The one major advantage England has in its rank is that it comes with its best players in the tournament as apart from Jack Butland, no one in the England squad was left out injured unlike the other European giants which have to deal with the injured players coming into the EUROS.
The goalkeeper department will be bossed by the Manchester city goalkeeper Joe Hart who has performed consistently well for his club team. Joe hart was highly praised for his heroics against Real Madrid in the UEFA champion’s league semi final. The absence of Jack Butland won’t affect the English team too much as Fraser Forster can also be a good option in case Joe hart gets injured.
The defense will be the key to England success as they have the services of the Europe’s most wanted defender, John stones. Chris Smalling was also a consistent performer for Manchester United and the experience of Gary Cahill will surely be beneficial for the team. The wingback duo of Tottenham that is Danny rose and Kyle Walker will be the first choice wing backs for Roy Hodgson.
The Medfield of the English team is not as star studded like the other teams in the Europe, but will defiantly crucial to the success of the England team this year. Delle Alli could be the best young player at the Euros and it may finally be the time when Ross Brakley proves his quality on the national scene. Wayne Rooney may be introduced to the midfield and that can turn out to be a brilliant strategic plan for England. Adam Lallana and Jordan Henderosn would be playing their part too and Eric Dier could be the English team’s lethal weapon this term.
The attack is where England is blessed with the two best strikers of the premier league last year. The premier league golden Harry Kane boot can be potent force at the Euros and the charismatic Jamie Vardy is set to be a wild card for England in the Euros. The England will also enjoy the services of the young Marcus Rashford and reliable Daniel Sturridge.
The one major problem that has always followed England at the big tournaments is the nerves. Yes, the nerves have always gotten better of them and have resulted in multiple failures.
The England defense could also be the weak link for them at the Euros though they have two of the most promising young center back in all Europe, but they have to step into the legacy of greats like Ferdinand, terry and Neville which is not an easy task to do.
The biggest problem with England is that coming into this tournament Roy Hodgson still doesn’t have a stable playing 11. The confusion over Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy can be fatal for the three lion’s chances and in case if the introduction of Wayne Rooney into the Medfield didn’t work out there way then this could be a massive blow to the team’s chances.
Verdict – semi final
Some will say it is too much, but fielding a youth could be one great thing for the English team. The Tottenham connections on the team would also be helpful and if this team reaches semifinal that will be achieved for them.
